It's with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Eileen Oakes this morning at the age of 98. She was born in Cawston and lived here until moving to Badgers Wood Care Home in 2019. She was a steadfast member of the church where she used to sing in the choir. Eileen was an inspiration to all who knew her and we pray that she may rest in peace and rise in glory. The church in Cawston is dedicated to St Agnes, a child martyr from the days of the Diocletian Persecution in Rome at the start of the 4th century. The abusive and humiliating manner of her death led to her becoming the patron Saint of those who have survived sexual violence. The Feast Day of St Agnes is on the 21st January and will be marked in Cawston with a special service. This year, we are teaming up with the Sue Lambert Trust to raise awareness and raise funds for their amazing work.At 5pm on the 4th February I will be going silent for 24 hours - no mean feat for a Vicar!
